Last November we announced that our Morning Prayer services would not be continued in the new year 2023. However, there has been a change of plans, which means that in the current season (winter and spring 2023) we can organize these Morning Prayers in the Anglican tradition again, although in a less frequent pattern than before, i.e. not every month. Please check our website (tag: “morning prayer”) for the exact dates.
The next Morning Prayer will be on Sunday, February 5th, at 11:30 a.m. in the Martini Church in Groningen. The service is ministered by Heleen Maat. The choir participating in this service will be the Dutch Choral Singers, directed by Henk de Vries. The organ will be played by Carlos Julián Fernández Bollo. Language: alternately English and Dutch.
From the Gospel of Luke we read about Jesus who returns to his home town Nazareth, where he takes part in the congregation in the local synagogue. Referring to the book of Isaiah, he argues that the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled in his own person, as with the Spirit of the Lord laid upon him, Jesus has come into the world to preach good news and to do good to especially those who have the lowest social status (the poor, the blind, the oppressed, etc.).

Eind november 2022 hebben we aangekondigd dat we onze (deels Engelstalige) Morning Prayers in 2023 vooralsnog niet konden voortzetten. De plannen zijn echter gewijzigd, waardoor we in het huidige seizoen (winter en voorjaar 2023) de Morning Prayer toch een aantal keren kunnen organiseren, al zal dat minder vaak zijn dan iedere maand. De eerstvolgende Morning Prayer wordt gehouden op zondag 5 februari 2023 om 11:30 uur in de Martinikerk te Groningen. Met voorganger Heleen Maat, en met medewerking van de Dutch Choral Singers onder leiding van Henk de Vries. Het orgel wordt bespeeld door Carlos Julián Fernández Bollo. De taal is afwisselend Engels en Nederlands.
Uit het Evangelie van Lucas lezen we over Jezus die terugkeert naar de plaats waar hij opgroeide: Nazareth. Hij neemt deel aan de samenkomst in de plaatselijke synagoge, leest daar uit het boek Jesaja en zegt dat de profetie van Jesaja in hemzelf vervulling is gegaan. Want met de Geest des Heren rustend op Jezus’ schouders, brengt hij het goede nieuws en verricht hij goede daden aan juist die mensen die in de samenleving het minste aanzien genieten, zoals de armen, de blinden, de onderdrukten, etc.

Wil je aan beide collectes bijdragen, doe dat dan met twee aparte overboekingen, elk met de juiste betalingsomschrijving. Maar ook met contant geld bijdragen is mogelijk.
